Software development is a cooperative game, to paraphrase Alistair Cockburn. In XP there are several players, including programmers, coach, customers, management, and users. All these players are on the same team, and the goal is for everyone to win. Everyone works together to do that. The ideal means of establishing thorough team communication is for programmers, coach, and customer to all sit in the same open work area.
